The Success Paradox

What if someone told you that your success is an outcome of your luck? Is that enough for you to lash out and explain how your hard work and dedication have gotten you to the position where you are right now? What if I told you that your success is indeed a product of two contradictions? So why is the nature of your success contradictory? Before you could understand that, let's take a couple of minutes to get to know these contradictions. Contradiction 1: Your belief that it's your hard work and countless sleepless nights that have abled you to climb that success ladder and stand at the top. But, on the other hand, Contradiction 2: Your awareness that Contradiction 1 is a lie and your luck has played an important role in getting you where you are. COVID-19 EULOGY


Hi there. I am sure that I need no introductions. I have made quite a name for myself in the past one and a half years. It wasn’t easy though… I had to do a lot of hard work. At some points, I genuinely felt that I wouldn't make it. I felt that the vaccine will just throw me off the block and fling me into the black hole of oblivion. But, you did not let that happen. You, the common people. The citizens who acted as my savior. The people who refused to remain distanced, those who pulled down their masks, those who altogether refused to wear masks. Every person's efforts count. You welcomed me in your homes with open arms and treated me like family when everyone else in the world cast me out. You guys just took my breath away... And in turn, I took away yours.

Speaking of breathlessness, this wouldn't have been possible without the initiative of our super respected government and its highly (Dis)qualified representatives. These alumni of WhatsApp university hold a very special place in my heart. Their efforts in spreading misinformation and hiding actual figures gave me the boost when I most needed it. When my haters thought that I am gone for good, it were all of you who stayed by my side and brought me back in the game. You did not only accept me but you accepted my entire clan. From viruses to fungi, the whole microbial world looks forward to a day when they get the same level of acceptance as you have offered to me. The rotten core which compels you to discriminate among yourself, did not matter in my case. You did not show any bias against any of the colours. Be it black, white, yellow, or green, you accepted us for what we truly are. You stood in long queues, unmasked your faces, brought people closer, held gatherings at the time of crisis, went out on vacations, and took me with yourself. Everywhere you went, I followed. Regardless of the fact that my haters tried their best to keep me at bay. But, as the saying goes, together we stand strong! And we had the numbers in our favour. Don’t get me started on the numbers, we were at the top of the world. Number One! That must count for something.

Thanks to all the efforts of all of you light-minded people, I stood firmly within society. I am not the same Coronavirus who emerged a year ago. My transformation was possible only because of you. Your beta level substandard hive-mindedness made it possible for me to become the alpha, gamma, and everybody’s favourite, delta variants of mine.  In the end, I'll just like to say that, I am here for the long run and I believe that you will never stop loving me. I hope that you never wear your masks. I hope that you all will always party hard. I hope to see you in long queues, and I hope that you will break the lockdown rules. With your support, I shall never be the loser. With me in your hearts, I hope to bring the whole world closer. Closer to havoc, closer to destruction, as I leave humanity on the brink of extinction.

THE SURVIVORSHIP BIAS!

"Exclusion of an important entity from a specific dataset is the precursor to untrue interpretations." - Mayank Mishra. The above statement induces a thought inside of me. A thought for the concept of Survivorship Bias. A bias that limits our critical thinking and pushes us towards illogical interpretations. What is survivorship bias you ask? Survivorship bias or survival bias is the phenomenon in which untrue or false conclusions are drawn because of the exclusion of an entity from a specific list or a group of similar entities because the excluded entity failed to survive in the long run, and hence, was not included in the said list or a group thereby resulting in an illogical interpretation of the dataset.
