The Success Paradox

What if someone told you that your success is an outcome of your luck? Is that enough for you to lash out and explain how your hard work and dedication have gotten you to the position where you are right now? What if I told you that your success is indeed a product of two contradictions? So why is the nature of your success contradictory? Before you could understand that, let's take a couple of minutes to get to know these contradictions. Contradiction 1: Your belief that it's your hard work and countless sleepless nights that have abled you to climb that success ladder and stand at the top. But, on the other hand, Contradiction 2: Your awareness that Contradiction 1 is a lie and your luck has played an important role in getting you where you are. This antithetical concept is the Success Paradox. But why does your success require to be paradoxical? The truth is, it doesn't. But it's the best approach that one should take to remain in touch with reality. It is human natu...

The Bootstrap Paradox!

Here comes something that haunts existence. It not only violates the second law of thermodynamics but also violates the natural law of existence. In my opinion, any concept becomes a paradox whenever it violates any established natural law.  Well, as it is said, laws are meant to be broken. Or is said for rules? Who cares? We've got bigger things to worry about than linguistic perfection. So now that we are all set for breaking the laws, it's time to get back to the topic, the Bootstrap Paradox! It can be best explained by giving an example. One day you wake up to the sound of your doorbell. You go to your doorstep but there's nobody there. Just when you're about to turn back, thinking that some kid did a prank on you, your eyes catch a glimpse of a notebook on your porch. You pick it up and take it inside to examine. Upon opening, you see the title - "A comprehensive guide to building a time machine!" You brush it off as just some silly thing but once you sta...

THE FERMI PARADOX

Our universe is infinite... so we can't talk about it in quantitative terms. To quantify it, let's take a look around and observe our observable universe which has a diameter of around 93.016 billion light-years . Inside this diameter, as per the New Horizons space probe , there are at least 100 billion galaxies . "Billion" can often be overlooked because of our inability to imagine the number of zeroes that it encompasses.  100 Billion = 100,000,000,000 Inside these 100 billion galaxies, there are almost one billion trillion stars. 1 Billion Trillion = 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 Even if one percent of these stars are like our sun, there are still 10 Million Trillion sun-like stars; 10 Million Trillion =  10,000,000,000,000,000,000   And if 1% of them have an Earth-like planet revolving around them then there are almost 100,000 trillion planets in the observable universe which, theoretically speaking, could give birth and sustain LIFE! 100,000 Trillion = 100,00...

The Grandfather Paradox

This is possibly the first thing that comes to mind when it registers the word, Paradox!  The Grandfather Paradox  is, virtually speaking, maybe the grandfather of all the paradoxes. This is because it deals with the most complex and most convoluted concept of all time, Time! As I mentioned in one of the previous episodes, " Time is the continued sequence of existence and events that occur in an apparently irreversible succession from the past, through the present, into the future." and time is something not to be messed with. Did your mother ever tell you not to play with that one kid who used to bully everyone? Well, consider time to be this kid's arrogant, grumpy, and angry grandfather. You wanna play with him? Consider yourself doomed. So, what is the Grandfather Paradox? Let's take an example, imagine that your grandfather accumulated a fortune of a thousand lifetimes during his life, and now it was your turn to inherit it all. On the day of announcing his will, ...

Why Universal Truths Are Not So Universal?

A universal truth is something that is meant to be taken as true at all times regardless of the situation. Still, these truths might form the largest portion of the things that are broken by the universe on a daily basis. The only thing that shields our beliefs from shattering is our acquaintance with that particular truth-shattering event which changes our entire reality once it comes out of the dark. So, if universal truths are something that could be broken, what value do our personal truths hold in front of them? And if our truths are meaningless, what good is our life? I have seen that I tend to take my writings to a bleak reality very often. Maybe that is where I think society is headed nowadays. Or maybe, these are the warnings of the forbidden pathways that we should avoid in order to progress towards the betterment of society, and not its destruction. So maybe, I am just highlighting the alternate timelines that I think we should avoid. Well, back to the matter at hand. You mi...

Black Baby Test - The Symbolic Stupidity of Being Human

Living in a concrete jungle doesn't necessarily make us civilized. If there ever was a time when humanity didn't distinguish itself on the basis of caste, colour, race, country, and religion then it must have been the most civilized era since the dawn of human civilization.  But, what is the definition of discrimination...? We'll come back to that. There was a time when a study, known as the "Black Baby Test" was conducted in which kids were put to a test to determine which doll out of two, one black and one white, was the ugly one. Surprisingly, the results were skewed in one direction. Most of the kids claimed the black doll to be the ugly one. When asked about their reasoning for picking the black doll, the kids replied with the color of the doll which made them think that black is bad and white is good. So, what was the reason for such a horrific perspective? The researchers concluded that this perspective developed in children as a consequence of the entertai...
